Companies developing an artificial intelligence data centre in Red Deer County announced a significant construction milestone. Havenz Smart Communities, alongside Energy Haven and Indigenous partner Turning Stone, revealed that hydrogen-ready reciprocating engines have arrived at the Blindman Industrial Park site north of Red Deer.
Project Details
The facility, called AHI Hub of Innovation, is progressing toward commissioning its initial power module in Q3 2026. According to CEO Sunny Sarpal: "The first power module remains on track to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2026."
The project employs Tier-1 hydrogen-ready reciprocating engines designed for the reliability and flexibility demands of AI computing infrastructure. The distributed power architecture enables modular expansion, allowing capacity to scale directly with customer demand rather than relying on traditional grid infrastructure.
Construction Progress
The first power block is now under active construction, including building foundations, mechanical and electrical installations, and supporting infrastructure. Future phases will expand on-site power generation, energy storage, and grid-interface capabilities.
Economic Impact and Vision
The industrial innovation campus targets power-intensive sectors including AI data centres, cloud infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and agricultural technology. Upon completion, it will generate construction employment, permanent operations positions, Indigenous and regional supply-chain opportunities, and tax revenues for local and provincial governments.
