Red Deer County approves first-phase development at Blindman

In October 2025 Red Deer County’s Municipal Planning Commission approved the development permit for AHI’s first phase at Blindman Industrial Park. The approval was granted through the County’s public process — the right project, in an established industrial park.

The first phase is planned in the 10–30 MW range, built 10 MW at a time. The approval covers the first 10 MW step: land, on-site generation and the first building. Provincial environmental approvals for initial generation are in place, with each further phase reviewed on its own. Every further 10 MW increment earns its own permits before it is built.

Sound compliance is a condition of the approval, and one AHI engineered in from day one: the campus must meet Alberta Utilities Commission Rule 012 permissible sound levels. Independent acoustical studies continue through every phase, and AHI measures real-world sound as each phase comes online — adapting the design before growing further.

With approvals in hand and long-lead generation secured, the project moved to construction.
