Alberta launches its AI Data Centres Strategy — and Central Alberta is ready

In December 2024 the Government of Alberta launched its AI Data Centres Strategy, with the aim of making the province “the most attractive place to build AI data centres in North America.”

The strategy rests on three pillars. Power capacity — prioritizing off-grid and grid-connected solutions, protecting affordability and reliability for Albertans, and using the province’s natural-gas reserves. Sustainable cooling — leveraging Alberta’s cold climate and developing best-in-class cooling with water capacity in mind. Economic growth — Canada’s lowest tax regime, jobs and government revenue, balanced against affordability for existing industries.

For AHI, the strategy reads like the design brief the campus was planned to. Power behind the fence, engineered to AUC Rule 012. Direct-to-chip closed-loop cooling with zero municipal water, in Alberta’s climate. Local trades hired first, and a new County and school tax base — without a single new municipal service.
